Chanter 225A, 431-432

  1. Population and dissenters: <In this Parish are> Eighty four Families, of these there <are> two persons presbyterian-Dissenters, in two Families. There is a Presbyterian Meeting-House in this Parish; The Person who teaches in it is Mr John Edmonds. The Meeting House is said to be licenced.

  2. Public or charity schools: There is in this Parish a S[c]hool for teaching Latine, well endowed, to which but one Scholar, at Present, belongeth.

  3. Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: There is in this Parish, an Alms-House; two Fields & ye moiety of another, have been given for ye Poor, & two pounds & ten shillings to be paid yearly out of other Estates; Wm Roope Surgeon hath ye direction of ye rent of one Field & ye half of ye other before metnion'd; & all ye rest is at ye disposal of ye overseer of ye poor for ye Time Being. Here are two Fields & ye moiety of another given to ye minister of ye Parish for ye Time being. I do not know, nor have heard of any Fraud in ye managment of these Charities.

  4. Residence upon cure: This being a perpetual Curacy, there is no House belonging to it, but I have personally resided here till ye 20th day of June last, when I went & resided in ye vicarage-House of Egg Buckland.

  5. Curate: This Cure & ye Vicarage of Eggbuckland have been constantly served by me & ye Revd Mr Samuel Forster, who was employed by ye Churchwardens of Eggbuckland to serve yt Cure, during ye sequestration, immediately after ye Death of Mr Robinson my Predecessor & hath continued to do so ever since, tho interchangeably with myself since ye 20th of June last. He resideth with his Father in Plymouth, where He is usher at ye Free School. His allowance hath been thirty pounds per annum.

  6. Divine service at other churches: I do not ordinarily perform Divine Service at any Church besides my own.

  7. Frequency of divine service: Divine service is performed here twice ev'ry Lord's day with a sermon both in ye morning & afternoon, unless during ye Quarter of ye year when ye Days are shortest & ye Sermon in ye afternoon is omitted.

  8. Frequency of communion: The Holy Sacrament of ye Lord's Supper is administred four Times in ye year.

  9. Number of communicants: Here are generally about thirty five Communicants yt receive & near yt number communicated at Easter.

  10. Catechising of children: The particular <Time> when Children have been Catechized in this Parish is, on Wednesdays & Fridays, during ye Season of Lent, the Parishioners do not send their Children & servants to learn their Catechism <as much> as to satisfy ye minister & People yt they have learnt it.

  11. Chapels or chapels in ruins: There is but one Church or Chapel belonging to this Parish.
